Hello,
Please note that the song Desiree was not written by Laura, which significantly impacts your above theory regarding the lyric.

Hi Dan:
Thanks for the feedback. I agree that Laura did not write the lyrics for Deserie/Desiree. Had she merely sang a fairly close cover of the original song, your point would be well taken.
Laura, however, personally attributed the song. (Please, see my articles in this blog on Désiree, Timer & Maria Desiderio.)
These youtube covers are by VJs hwaj5300 & Mrsradish, respectively
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8L4m3-jbsU “Deserie” 1957 original
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obEO6qXxo5U “Desiree” 1967 remake.
Please note: That in both versions of the Charts’ “Deserie/Desiree” the name is pronounced Dĕz -ä-rē (like key). Laura’s version is pronounced Dĕz-ä-rā (like day). The Charts’ versions are classic doowop. Laura’s version is a sultry love ballad. Laura Nyro’s Désiree is an undisguished profession of ultimate love by one woman singing to another woman, a lover.
Would appreciate your criticism.
